Spring Open House

 We’re kick starting this season off with two free seminars during our annual Open House Event!  Join us for “Gardening for Beginners” Saturday April 16th at 9:00am and our new “Potscaping” seminar Sunday April 17th at 9:00am.

 

April 16th, 9:00 am. Gardening for Beginners

-Ever want to begin gardening, but it just seems too intimidating and daunting? Then this is the seminar for you! We’ll go over the most fool-proof flowers and shrubs that require very little maintenance as well as basic garden designs even the beginner gardener can understand and master.

 

April 17th, 9:00 am. NewPotscaping”

-Introducing the fastest growing department in the gardening industry. Potscaping – designing any kind of container with endless arrangements of plants, flowers, tropicals, ornamental trees, succulents, vegetables, or herbs limited only by your imagination! We’ll go over the basic tips to ensure your Potscaping experience is fabulous!

 

April 23rd, 9:30 am. Pruning Techniques

-The daunting task of pruning – How do I do it? When is the right time? How much should be removed? Don’t worry! This seminar will take the fear out of pruning, so you can prune any shrub or tree with confidence.

 

April 30th, 9:30 am. Fruit & Vegetable Gardening

-One of our most popular seminars! Learn how to successfully grow your own fruit and vegetables. Plus we’ll cover how to avoid and treat those awful pests and diseases that can ruin your valuable crop of fresh food.

 

May 14th, 9:30 am. Make your Pots Pop!

-Missed our Potscaping seminar? Or already have a container garden and want to give it a boost? Then come to our ‘popping’ seminar on how to make your containers the focal point of your entire neighborhood!

 

June 11th, 9:30 am. Cooking with Herbs

-Ever grow a variety of fragrant herbs but just don’t know how to best use them in your kitchen? Then this is the seminar for you! With guest chef joining us from the Rideau Carleton Raceway, we’re putting on a live cooking demonstration (with ample of tastings!) to show you which herbs go best with which easy lunch, dinner and dessert recipes.

 

June 25th, 9:30 am. Maintenance Pruning

-Even though you may have already pruned some shrubs in early spring, don’t forget that a lot of shrubs or trees do best when pruned in mid summer. Come check out this seminar to learn all about mid-season pruning.

 

July 16th, 9:30 am. Hot Perennials for Hot Places

-By mid summer we start experiencing high temperatures combined with busy travelling schedules – the perfect recipe for your garden to dry up! Join us for a detailed seminar on drought tolerant plants that can withstand a little (and a lot!) of heat and neglect.

 

July 23rd, 9:30 am. Fabulous Additions for the Summer Garden

-Don’t get stuck with having gorgeous blooms all spring but run out of colour by summer. This informative seminar will help you plan your garden so you always have an array of bright blooms all summer long!

 

September 10th, 9:30 am. Fall Pruning Techniques

-A detailed seminar covering all you need to know about pruning in the fall. Avoid common mistakes of pruning the wrong shrubs at the wrong time to ensure your garden boasts a continuous supply of blooms all season. Learn about overwintering pests and diseases so you can discard them safely and properly.

October 1st, 9:30 am. Winterizing Techniques

-Learn how to properly put your garden to rest for the winter. Topics will include the pros and cons between using burlap, frost blankets, and rose huts, how to best avoid overwintering pests and diseases, as well as tips for a healthy garden come spring.
